What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
When first starting out with the task my group and I decided that we needed to get to know our audience and what they expected from a pop music video as this was our chosen genre. Therefore we created a survey of which asks multiple questions, we got back 35 responses. From this we learnt that our audience would mainly consist of females aged around 13-20, we also learnt that there was mainly outgoing people. With this information we decided to aim our production work at teenage females and decided to go for a song with an upbeat rhythm. This also helped us indentify what we thought we needed for our magazien advert and digipak.

Once we had created our first inital drafts of our magazine advert, digipak and the anamatic for our music video we asked our target audience to take a questionnaire and see what they thought of it. We used simple yes/no questions but told our participants that if they wanted to write extra comments then it would be more than welcome as we wanted to know exactly how they felt. We discovered that most people liked the layout of our intitial paper drawn drafts and decided to keep this layout throughout the rest of our production. However as we started to create the digipak ona corel draw we discovered the intended image was not going to work. We began to put in different styles and backgrounds and came up with our first draft. We then asked our target audience once again to complete a questionnaire. With this questionnaire we found that our background on the back cover was not liked by the target audience as they felt it did not coincide well with the rest of the digipak and was not easily linked with the magazine advert. Therefore we deicided to change the back cover from stars with a blue background to a paint strokes which we had already used on the front cover and on the magazine advert. We found this was useful as we thought by jsut using the same colour it would create a hosue style, but as our audience are the most important we decided to go with their idea. Another piece of feed back of which we found interesting from our audience was that they did not like the black outline on both the magazine advert and the digipak. We felt that this was constructive criticism as we wnated to ensure our audience thought our product looked professional.

When producing our music video we took in to account many of the conventions of the pop genre and therefore found that most of the time this was the most important thing to consider. Therefore when we received some audience feedback that the lighting of the music video used too much high-key lighting we decided that we would ignore this. This is because from our experience of researching we found that high-key-lighitng was used when people were happy and showed the fun and enthusiasm the band was having. However we did find from our audience that they did not enjoy the hair flicks being repeated, so therefore we decided to reverse the second hair flicks to make it different and more interesting. We found this interesting as in many music videos of the pop genre most things were repeated, however we decided to take on board this feedback as we didn't want our audience to be bored. Other times when we went with our own knowledge of pop genre conventions was when someone said that they did not enjoy the rondo effect, and did not understand it. However we knew that the majority of our audience did and that it was something they would enjoy. Something we ensured we kept during the main task and ancillary tasks was urban scenes and a bright colour scheme, as this was something that was said in the initial audience research.
